In antiquity, a consultant was called a “Haruspex”, meaning a wise man, who, by inspecting the bottom side of a sheep liver, linked anatomical variations with past experience, historical knowledge, personal and political constellations to extrapolate trends, communicating them to paying customers.
A modern equivalent is a “Neurospex”, meaning an experienced neuroscientist who is doing largely the same thing. Should not be confounded with oracle tellers in business matters known as “Analysts”…
